Air Conditioning
You want to keep your car running in the best condition possible, and you want driving to be a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Therefore, keeping your vehicle's air condition system functioning properly is a top priority at Sonny's Auto Repair.
A leak in your Air Conditioning system is bad for your car and bad for the environment. If your Air Conditioning system leaks, it does not just cause you to lose refrigerant. It causes the different parts of the system, the compressor, and condenser, to overwork and eventually become damaged.
When you turn your air conditioner on, you should not have to wait for the cold air. However, if you are waiting several minutes for cold air, or the air never gets cold, you should allow Sonny and his team to check the system right away. Having Air Conditioner issues checked and fixed right away will help you avoid more costly repairs down the road.
Recharge or Repair
As time passes, any mechanical system is going to show signs of wear. Your air conditioning system is no different. Connections and fitting become loose, gaskets and rings wear away, and hoses and seals dry out and crack. These parts will inevitably need to be replaced. As these seals and rings wear out, you will lose refrigerant. Your system will need some basic maintenance and recharge to keep your car's cabin cool and comfortable.
Do not put off any repairs to your Air Conditioner. As with any mechanical part, problems do not solve themselves or go away. Instead, they worsen over time, and basic maintenance can turn into a costly repair if you wait too long.
When you bring your car into Sonny, he and his team will check your entire Air Conditioning system to make sure it is operating at peak efficiency. After all, whether your vehicle is for work or family, or it is your dream car, it is no fun to drive if you are sweaty and uncomfortable.
Freon Keeps Your Car Cool
Just like the air conditioner in your home, Freon is responsible for keeping the air cool. Freon is a halocarbon and is one of the chemicals responsible for depleting the ozone.
If your vehicle was manufactured during or after 1995, the Freon in your car is called 134a. Previous years used R12. While both are refrigerants, the Environmental Protection Agency mandated the discontinuance of R12 due to how long it remains in the environment. 134a remains in the environment for a significantly less amount of time.
You Can Convert a Car's Older System.
Converting older R12 systems to newer 134a systems is a fairly simple process, with conversion kits available for most cars. While you can still find R12, it has been banned by the EPA, so what you find has either been in storage for a long time or has been imported. In either case, you have no idea about the quality of the product, and you are guaranteed to pay a premium for it.
134a is readily available, less expensive, and better for the environment.
Get Your Entire System Checked
When you come to Sonny's Auto Repair, we will check out every part of the system to ensure your comfort and safety. The parts include the compressor and condenser, as we mentioned. The system also includes a series of pipes and fittings, relays, cooling fans, and blowers.
We will perform a visual inspection of the system and check system pressure readings to ensure no leaks. We will also check the air temperature and how long it takes to cool down to see if any issues need to be further explored or repaired.
